Looking Ahead

September 2, 2013

My experiences in Brooklyn at SOCAPA were invaluable. I was able to work with a phenomenal team of individuals. The students were very passionate and eager to learn. I was able to share so much knowledge with them while also learning so much information myself. I can only hope that I will get to spend another summer with the program soon.

As of now, I am interning with the Ocean Exchange in Savannah, Georgia. I am helping organize the live event and conference that will be taking place at the end of September. I am starting to grasp just how much preparation goes into an event such as this. I can't wait to see it all come together!

I have been keeping an eye out for productions coming to the area as well. I'm hoping to expand my network in the industy to see what productions I can become involved with. Although freelance work is quite challenging, I really am excited to see what lies ahead.

Life After Graduation

June 16, 2013

On May 11, 2013, I became an alumnus of the wonderful Georgia Southern University. I recieved my Bachelor of Science degree with Summa Cum Laude honors in Multimedia Communications with a minor in Spanish. I have built such a wonderful community of friends through GSU and I can't wait to see what we all accomplish next.

The day prior to my Commencement ceremony, I was ecstatic to accept a job offer with the School of Creative and Performing Arts in New York City. I was offered the position of Film Teaching Assistant/Resident Counselor. I will be working with students from ages 13 to 18. I'm extremely excited for this opportunity to share my passions with others.  In ten short days, I will be on my way to the Big Apple!

I have been working with a few local production companies in the mean time in which I have gained valuble experience. I have worked as a camera operator on live events and a production assistant/grip on a promotional video set. I couldn't be more thankful for these experiences.

My experience with 16mm film

April 22, 2012

This weekend I was 2nd Assistant Camera for the SCAD film If I Die Before The Wake. The film has a twist of dark comedy when the main character, a mortician, becomes involved with a man who has been recently widowed. The mortician becomes the recipient of the jealous ghost's antics.

The director, Caroline Nead, made the decision to shoot this production on 16mm film. This was my first experience with a film camera. I recognized the importance of the time and care put into the rehearsals during the production. In order to avoid unnecessary use of the film, Caroline ensured that all blocking and camera movement was just right before recording.

As 2nd AC, I was responsible for the slating the scenes, changing lenses, taking depth of field measurements, and moving equipment. I really enjoyed this production because everything ran very smoothly. Through this experience, I gained knowledge and connections in the field.
